It is also Jun Ji-hyun’s (Gianna Jun) comeback to the small screen. If you’re someone like me who’s a big fan of Jun Ji-hyun. You’ve probably been waiting for an update on this drama since it was first announced back in January. So, this update is fascinating.

About the Drama

Tempest is a 9-episode Korean thriller series. revolving around the theme of politics and espionage.

The story revolves around Moon-joo (Jun Ji-hyun), a renowned diplomat and former South Korean ambassador. She’s known for having sharp judgment and a wide international influence. Her life suddenly turned upside down when she discovered something. A conspiracy—tied to an assassination of a high-profile figure—that involves both South and North Korea.

Besides her, San-ho (Gang Dong-won) is an elite mercenary with a mysterious identity. He’s the kind of character you can never fully trust. Together, they will race to expose the truth before the conspirators strike once again.

The supporting cast of this series is filled with renowned talent such as John Cho, Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Oh Jung-se, and Joo Jong-hyuk.

The men behind the camera are powerhouses like Kim Hee-won (Vincenzo, Little Women) and Heo Myung-haeng (The Roundup: Punishment), and Jung Seo-kyung (Decision to Leave) wrote the script.

The Poster: A Glimpse of the Storm Ahead

Honestly, the poster is enough to get me hyped. It shows Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won standing beside each other. Their faces are glowing against a sea of lights. The tagline says, “We will cross this storm and wait for the light.” The tagline makes you feel the weight of the story.

The image is powerful, and it sums up the heart of the drama—two people fighting through chaos and danger while holding on to the hope that there’s something better waiting on the other side.

The teaser trailer only enhances my curiosity. It starts by showing Jun Ji-hyun walking slowly through a cathedral—with no dialogue, just a lot of tension—before cutting into quick flashes of action and chaos. You can already tell that there will be more going on.

Why You Should Watch

Everything about this drama screams “must-watch!”

It’s Gang Dong-won’s long-awaited comeback, and he’s also a producer on the series.

Jun Ji-hyun—and her unmatched screen presence—paired with a politically charged storyline written by Jung Seo-kyung. Also, the stellar supporting casts catch everyone's attention.

And of course, the plot itself. It’s something unique, and I’m pretty sure this one will stick with you if you’re a thriller K-Drama lover like me.
