K-dramas have built a global reputation on the "perfect" idealistic romance. Fans loves kdramas like when life gives you tangerines, where couples are supporting and loving each other through every hardship they encounter. It’s the ultimate comfort watch.
There's another side of the same coin. Not every K-drama couple is a "relationship goal,"
Some kdramas have couples that kdrama fans are not fond of.
We will discuss why some Kdrama fans are not fond of these kdrama couples.
We’re going to dive into why some of these onscreen couples have missed the mark and why, for many viewers, the "spark" is actually a red flag
1. True Beauty
True beauty focused on the love triangle, between Im ju-kyung - Lee suho - Han Seojun.
Although Su Ho was Ju Kyung’s main love interest, some viewers found his behavior problematic. Asking Im Ju kyung to quit the job, Following her to Ju Kyung date and fighting Han Seo Jun over Im Ju Kyung. They saw his character as being too controlling or possessive of Ju Kyung, Because of the love triangle in the series.
The breakup in last few episodes added feul to the fire.
Most of the kdrama fans feels, Han Seojun to be a better fit for Im Ju kyung.

2. Our universe
*Our Universe* has sparked some pretty intense debate lately, mostly centered on its messy love triangle. Many viewers felt the female lead, Woo Hyun Jin, was way too invested in the second lead, Park Yoon-seong, while completely sidelining the actual male lead, Seon Tae-hyung. The biggest frustration for fans, though, was her lack of focus on Woo-ju—the literal heart of the plot. By the end, Viewers felt that : Seon Tae-hyung deserves better, and he’s the only one who should have full custody of Woo-ju.

3. Nevertheless
Nevertheless is often cited as one of the most realistic portrayals of modern dating, but that realism came with a heavy dose of backlash. Most viewers absolutely hated the male lead, Park Jae-on; his "playboy" energy and habit of stringing women along made him one of the most loathed characters in recent K-drama history. Between the lack of commitment and his shady communication, fans wanted Nabi, female lead, to leave him and pursue her career in art.
In the end, though, Nabi decided to give a chance to their relationship and initiated the offical relationship with Park jae-on. Her decision to stick with Jae-on felt like a step backward to many. It sparked a lot of anger among viewers who felt that, instead of showing "growth," the ending just showed Nabi falling back into a toxic cycle, even if Park jae-on was shown as a changed man.

4. Love alarm
It’s ironic how much a male lead's character can change the vibe of a show. In Nevertheless, fans were genuinely frustrated that Park Jae-on (played by Song Kang) actually ended up with the female lead. In Love Alarm, and the same fans were devastated because Song Kang’s character, Sun-oh, didn't get the female lead. Love Alarm is one of the kdramas, where female lead chose second lead as her love interest. Most viewers criticised the kdrama because of that unsatisfying love triangle ending, where the protagonist seemingly makes the "wrong" choice, suggested by the viewers. Between the messy, dragged-out plot and the feeling that the ending completely ignored the chemistry built in the first season, it’s become one of those dramas that people either love to hate.

5. Doctor stranger
K-drama fans are usually split down the middle: you’re either "Team Male Lead" or "Team Second Male lead". But *Doctor Stranger* is a rare case where the fandom shifted its focus entirely to the second female lead.
The chemistry between Lee Jong-suk and Kang So-ra touched the hearts of the viewers. Their dynamic completely captivated the audience, often making the actual "endgame" romance with Jin Se-yeon feel sidelined by comparison. Even though the script was headed in a different direction, many viewers felt the spark between the leads and the second female lead lead was the real heart of the series, leading to plenty of frustration when the finale didn't reflect that.

6. Dear X
Dear X is a standout for how it handles morally grey characters, Baek Ah-jin. Kim Yoo-jung’s performance was adored by fans, but they also condemned the acts of baek ah jin. Viewers couldn't stop watching her, even if you hated what she was doing.
The conversation around the lead "couple," Jun-seo and Baek Ah-jin, usually centers on how toxic they are for one another. Their dynamic is a perfect example of how a bond can be destructive and consuming, if boundaries aren't set, which only made the drama more unsettling for the fans watching it unfold.

7. Boys over flowers
Boys over flowers is still one of the most loved kdramas despite its released in 2009.
But the dynamics of Gu Jun Pyo and jandi are criticised due to Gu Jun-pyo’s character, especially in the early episodes where he functioned more as a straight-up bully than a romantic lead. Throughout the early half of the show, his treatment of her was often borderline abusive, which makes the "romance" a tough pill to swallow.
Even though the story eventually tries to redeem him as a "changed man," many viewers still can't quite get on board.
