Our universe has been in talks of kdramas communities. “Our Universe” has sparked a lot of discussion among viewers. From debates about the love triangle to discussion about raising woo joo, fans have shared mixed reactions online. To understand how viewers are interpreting the drama, NewKdrama reached out to several Kdrama influencers and asked them to share their honest opinions about the series.
Here is what they have to say!
1. Did the Love Triangle Change the Direction of the Story?
There has been discussion among viewers that “Our Universe” was originally expected to focus more on the dynamic of the male lead and female lead raising Woo-ju, but the introduction of the love triangle shifted the direction of the story. What is your perspective on this?
Yoyoyogeee (@

"Personally, I really agree with this discussion. I originally started watching this drama mainly because of the cast, as I’m a big fan of Bae Inhyuk, (who plays Taehyung), and he has been in many shows which I really enjoyed, so I was very excited to see him act in the cute concept that this drama appeared to have. I am also very familiar with the actress Roh Jeongui who plays Hyunjin, so I was really looking forward to seeing the relationship between the two leads grow.
However, even though the drama started off very strong, it stuck to their original concept of the leads raising the child together for only a few episodes. As the show progresses, it starts to lose what originally made it interesting to me as the focus shifts to the second lead and the relationship between him and the female lead, rather than the dynamic between Hyunjin and Taehyung and the idea of them raising the child together — which was meant to be the main plot that I started the drama for!"
Yes. I do agree with the popular sentiment as the drama shifted from its central theme of raising baby Woo-ju to female lead trying to figure out her feelings. I guess thats why majority of the viewers were angered at the sudden shift. The beginning of the drama was entirely focused on taehyung and his ordeals after his brother seemingly abandoned him but as the drama progressed it shifted to female lead and her individual life and that kind of sting me as well. Because the drama's main charm was woo-ju and how he would be raised by them, we expected their jolly and cheerful moments which eventually led to the creation of a new family and subsequently justifies the drama's title as well. However, i think the love triangle wasn't at all needed but i think writer did not find anything else to fill the plot, they deliberately used the same old trope of drama to keep the viewers engaged but it ended up getting backlash....overall if there was no love triangle I think drama wouldn't be that popular, second lead should be credited for getting negative pr for the show as well. Overall the shift was not necessary as it deviated from the central theme of the drama but it did work for the production team despite the ongoing hate and backlash, as a viewer I did enjoy the show and I think if there was no transition I would enjoy it more [without any ill feelings]
"I think viewers have outgrown the “love triangle” plot. They want something new. Our Universe seemed to offer that, an uncle and an aunt (in-laws by relation) raising a baby after the sudden death of the parents, along with their own developing love story. The premise promised the chaos of raising a child, but instead delivered a love triangle. No wonder many K-drama fans didn’t enjoy it, especially since viewers often end up siding with the second male lead.
So yes, I do agree that the love triangle was not what many of us signed up for."

2. Was the Female Lead Attentive Enough to Woo-ju?
Some viewers feel that although the female lead stepped in as Woo-ju’s guardian, her character did not always appear fully attentive to Woo-ju. Do you agree with this interpretation, or do you see the character differently?
I fully understand why some viewers feel this way, because I do too! Since Woo-ju was introduced as such a central part to the story, I expected to see many more scenes of the female lead caring for him and prioritising him. I was expecting to see more of her role as a guardian or a parent, but this wasn’t present at all as the drama had more scenes of her going on dates and spending time with the second male lead who does not share any connection to Woo-ju. Since the drama started emphasising the romantic storyline between the female lead and second male lead, the focus shifted more towards the love triangle and less towards the idea of raising Woo-ju. If the show had focused more on this, I would definitely be able to vouch more for the female lead. As of now, I cannot say she is fully attentive to Woo-ju as her character seems preoccupied with other priorities.
I do not agree with the popular opinion as I feel like there is more to female leads life than raising Woo-ju. The drama wanted to show how she wanted to raise herself and woo-ju as well. She is orphaned as well and she lost her sister too. Viewers often forget that taehyung had some time off and so it took care of the baby and his work did not require him to spent all day at work but for female lead it was different, she was finally living her dream after years of sacrifice... she deserves happiness too, she did not abandon woo-joo, she just worked to fulfill his needs, woo-joo is a baby, raising a baby needs money and at that time uncle taehyung didnt have any means, and I believe if the roles were reversed backlash would not be this much...anyways by the end of the series we all know that she will be with the ml so hating her for living her life is kind of childish.... she did not abandon or became less attentive to woo-juu, she just tried her best to provide for him
I don’t think Hyun-jin was inattentive to Woo-ju or neglecting him, even though in the drama she felt guilty for not knowing Woo-ju’s habits. I think Hyun-jin was simply an adult trying to balance work and personal life, and she struggled to manage it well. Raising a baby requires financial stability, so working was necessary for her.
However, I do believe the writer should have shown more bonding moments between Hyun-jin and Woo-ju, similar to the scenes we saw between Tae-hyung and Woo-ju.
3. Team Male Lead or Team Second Male Lead?
Do you prefer male lead or second male lead for our female lead? Who do you think should be the endgame?
I’m 100% Team Sun Taehyung! From the beginning, I’ve been excited to see the relationship between him and the female lead develop, not only because of the bond they share raising Woo-ju, but because of how much chemistry they have! From my point of view, Hyunjin’s character is definitely more comfortable around Taehyung, and she is not afraid to be vulnerable around him. On the other hand, she tries to be as perfect as she can in front of her sunbae, and although they were each other’s first love, I personally think that Hyunjin has grown too much in the time that she has been apart from the second lead — so he does not know the real, present, and true version of her, whereas Sun Taehyung does.
Team taehyung always because he is kind, gentle, jolly despite everything he has faced in life unlike second lead who is kind of selfish
I am personally team woo ju, treat him well! The only reason why I am watching this show. He is so cute!
4.Would Influencers Recommend “Our Universe”?
Is the kdrama worth watching for our viewers?
"Even though it did not turn out to be exactly what I expected, I would still recommend this show, especially to viewers who are also interested in the cast like me or people who are interested in the premise, because it is a really cute concept. The drama did have a very strong and promising start and the cast did a very good job! However, I would still like them to know that the focus does change as the story progresses and that there’s a love triangle present. If someone is watching mainly for the concept of the main couple raising Woo-ju together, they may feel a bit disappointed since the focus does shift to the love triangle. So, I would still recommend it, but I’d make sure to mention the annoying parts!"
Yes! I would recommend it because it's a bit different from other dramas.
I believe everyone has different taste, so if someone enjoys love triangles, they would love it. While others might not prefer it!
Although everyone should give it a try for woo ju!

While opinions differ, the responses show that “Our Universe” has certainly sparked conversation among viewers. Whether it’s the love triangle, the characters, the emotional storyline, parenting or our baby ; the drama continues to divide audiences.
